Serenity Blooms project 3

This project was originally a Batsford prize based on the "at peace" theme. I wanted to try and make an illustration showing a figure relaxed and at peace with the body and mind surrounded by flowers. I researched a bunch of flowers I could use to show my idea. I also started taking reference images of the flowers and images of people relaxing, trying to combine the ideas, and producing the sketches.

It then evolved into an aromatherapy-type company that helps promote different flowers that help reduce stress, which is why I called it Serenity Blooms.

These are the flower I have chosen and researched.

These are the figures and portraits I used to help develop my concept more as well as I wanted to do more on plus-size body type as when I was looking for elegant type imagery I only found there isn't any plus-size artwork that fall under that so I thought I should try and show that in my work.

Victoria Gedvillas is another watercolour artist who created these paintings of ethereal paintings of women. I really enjoy the way they layer the watercolour and keep that texture of watercolour while still giving each character painting a glowing effect, making the piece look more elegant.

Baotpham is a mixed media artist using arranged traditional art using very strong shapes imagery and bold colours. That’s what I enjoyed about this artist, even with the boldness they still achieved to make each piece elegant and ethereal.

I chose these artists as I wanted to achieve this look in my own painting, and they help to further my ideas in my final product.

These are the sketch I came up with, I then chose the best one that I can develop further.

These are test paining on what paper I would use and how I would paint my final pieces.

Final sketches are to be printed and transferred to watercolour paper.

This piece was scraped as it didn't match the rest of their painting as well as I was having problems trying to capture the flower in this painting so I decided to scrap it.

These are the final painting, I pained them in watercolours and each flower in gouache then went over it in coloured pencil. Then I scanned them in to be edited on Photoshop to fix any mistakes and brighten the colours.

After the images are done I then took them into InDesign to add tests to make them into posters, this is where I came up with the brand name of the company called Serenity Blooms and each poster has a description of benefit of each flower.

The reason I use the font is that it matches there colourfulness of each painting and stands out when looking at it too.

Digital drawing of each flower to go on the postcard with the brand name and text which tell the consumer how each flower can help relieve stress.

Final postcard mock-up showing you how they would look like.

Mock-up of what they look like as a wind display as well as the logo at the front of the shop.
